There are over 4000 species of mushroom in Ireland and we know little about a lot of the species ad their properties. There are over 8 species know to cause halluonogenic effect in Ireland and they may have been used by our ancestors to create some hallucinogenic rock art swirls.

My mate lived in Caherdaniel, and I called down one year at the mushy season dying to see this magic field he was always on about. So we woke up with a hangover the day after I arrived, of course, and I said show us this field then and he said, too wrecked, go up the top of the lane, take a left, keep walking and you'll just see it.

Did you ever consider the carnivore diet. It has worked wonders for me. Living in West Waterford. Tried it to get fit but it did amazing things for me. Had low level anxiety, arthritis, brain fog, like dementia, aching joints. It cleared it all up. Even silly things like my eye site is better and hearing. Check out 'steak and butter gal' and Dr Anthony Chafee' on you tube. It is hard to start. You will fee shit for about a month as your body gets used to not having all the shit. Just remember, if you have any tiredness, or feeling shit, have more salt. Your body needs lots of salt as you are not eating processed shit and so you need to keep toped up for the first month or 2 with it and then ween down as your body is healed

Hi, yes, they can, but do not take too many!! If you start off and take only 20-30 dried or wet, not boiled, as boiling makes way more potent & intense, if boiling 10-15 should be plenty, that should be enough to make you happy, very content, giggle, laugh etc.

As long as the field hasn't been fertilised or ploughed they can grow anywhere.

No that's bullshit, it doesnt matter if the field has been fertilised. I live on a farm, so I'm 100% sure, just how its bullshit that liberty caps die after 1 frost. Theyll survive 2 or 3 frosts and actually become more potent
Ty
4/9/2022 03:45:39 pm
Denis Cameron.... Stop spreading misinformation. Boiling them will kill the alkaloids not make them stronger. If you don't know what you are talking about its best you don't say anything. Do your research. Comments like this is why there is so much BS regarding these medicines.

Liberty caps grow in every cow or sheep field. You need to go to a field where there are no cows in it because the cows just upset the ground. It obviously has to be cold and pissing rain, so start of October on wards is prime season. Liberty caps also survive 2 or 3 ground frosts and it actually makes them more potent for some reason

September and November , the start of October some years , depending on frost ! Hills and fields where herds roam are perfect for " liberty caps " one of the strongest magic mushrooms there is. .2 of a gram every 3 days , microdosing is the new thing.....neurons firing in all directions. A cure for depression and anixety , and more testing is been done , worldwide .....Ireland has to wake up , and use or consciousness in a positive and progressive manner

If you're unsure if you have the correct species, one very easy way to tell, is the little thin stalks on the mushrooms begin to turn a distinct blue/purple tinge, shortly after picking.

Don't use heat to dry them, spread them out on some cardboard and leave them somewhere where it's cooler then normal room temperature preferably somewhere dark and keep an eye on them, keep turning them over so they don't stick to the cardboard. When they are dry store them in a mason jar or even a food zip lock bag and leave them in the same kind of temp that you dried them out in. They will last up to a year if you follow my method. IMHO the best way to take them is to use fresh ones and put them into a flask and add boiling water and also I add in some jif lemon juice as well, put the lid on and shake the flask every 10/15 mins, after an hour or 2 the will be ready to strain and drink. It really does work up into a nice buzz and the lemon juice helps to take away the foul taste.

Found some amanitas (fly agaric) two weeks ago in Killarney National Park. This type of mushie likes pine trees. I made the mistake of not picking that day and went I went back the next day...they were gone.

I don't think the turning is that important. Newspaper is fine to dry them on. Just space then out with none touching

The reason we used a mesh fireguard, was for the larvae (little maggots) of the scariad fly to fall through as they evacuate, as the mushrooms dry out...

You don't necessarily have to dry them before consuming. I rarely ever do and actually think they're stronger fresh.

So far I've only found about 21 and the was around the 4/10/2017 but found none since. I'm thinking you're right about it been still early, I think that November may be the start of it, I read somewhere earlier on that the weather needs to cool to at least 5 deg C and it's still pretty much double that now. Next week it's supost to be 5 deg C and lower so It could be the start.

Yes it is mild here as well, the time that I remember picking the most was when it gets black dark at 6pm, and it's still bright out at that time now but Our seasons are a bit messed up, I noticed that the new leaves on trees are growing a lot later than usual and they are losing them much later then in previous years, I think that mother nature is about 4 weeks behind??

Hi guys, it's definitely time for them. I originally searched at the base of a mountain ( which had sheep on it) but never found any liberties. I also searched several fields around my area which also had sheep but no liberties. Your just going to have to keep trying different fields. Fields with lots of sheep and preferably short/grazed grass so that you can see them easily. I only have one location but have to travel 30 minutes to get there. At this stage I think it's more down to luck than anything. It's definitely not a given than liberties grow in fields that sheep graze on, it's just finding the right field.

I'm in Cork and temperatures were at 0° for two nights so I thought that would have killed them? Is it worth my while to keep on the lookout so? Haven't had much luck this year unfortunately. Only found about 60 altogether and that was after a good few hunts

Hi Donnie, I started looking on about the 20th of October and went on about 2 or searches a week since then. Very scarce this year as far as I can see. But I was unlucky last year too! How about you?
Donnie
19/11/2017 01:00:50 pm
To be honest, I never looked last year but the year before that I found some and the year before that I found some as well. Not loads but a couple of hundred anyhow. Before that I hadn't looked for them for maybe 10 years or so, back then 10 years ago I was getting around 1000 a day on my own, I surely had close to 10,000 that year. I'm on another forum as well and the reports for this year from others are bad as well, It seems strange that I found 20 early Oct but nothing since, their isn't even a lookalike mushroom or anything to be found in my fields, I will keep looking for another while tho.
Mary

I'm going to keep on looking too. It only takes one or 2 good days so hopefully that'll happen soon. Strange how they're not as frequent as they used to be. Is the other forum on this site too if you don't mind me asking? The more info we can all share the better

Hi Brad, maybe it has something to do with the crap that they are spraying into the air the chemtrails?? I honestly don't know mate, I'm stumped as to why we can't find the big numbers like we all did in times of the past. It just proves that times are changing and we must just except it and treat any finds like gold dust. I once heard about the 3 year rule where one good flush every 3 years and minimal finds for 3 years in between.

Lads this is the story with da mushies, since 2006 most land is sprayed including parks n golfcourses so to find our tasty feast you need to go where no tractor can go, you need untouched land, ive been picking since 1980 and its gotten a lot harder to find them and its for that reason, its e.u. bullshit to spray da land denying the free minds of men and women our annual escapism from da normal shit ppl have to deal with, everyman and woman should be allowed to grow cannabis and psycilicibin mushrooms so they can medicate themselves without need for the greedy pharma companies, people are dying of cancer and suicide when the answer to the problems has been growing in the ground for thousands of years,so take my advice all you freeminds take to the hills and pick your feast this autumn and if anyone doesnt know wot to pick they can join me on da mountain

Its still early but you need to go to high ground and look in the sedge grass and actually on da side of da road ,mountainous roads are great for them where ya see sheep walking on da roads thats the only places I get them now coz the farmers spray antifungacide so thats why they are not too plentiful anymore, long live the liberty cap

there are one or two more active species but its really better to stick with what you know, libs are special in a way that its easy to identify them and if they grow besides other species and you mistake them, its not likely you will get poisoned, other mushrooms can be very misleading and require years of experience to identify them, and yes other species would be quite rare to invest time.

no just look alikes could be round heads or smth, but not actives, youd want clear nipple, stalk thats thin, and cap that forms into bell shape, dont get confused with similar looking ones that have see trough gills as well. i got about 40 last day, and only 15 were definitive actives rest look alikes and and for inexperienced person this could look like real deal as some specially young ones can easily be confsued with something completely from different species, as suggested study pictures online, once you got smth then do spore print also no harm in making cut into stalk which should turn blewish just few indications that you might have active lib and not smth that might make you sick.

No Dave, as Pa says above, the absolute "acid test" is, shortly after picking, the stalks, especially close to the bottom, turn a distinctive shade of dark blue.

They dont all respond to theacid test I picked 100 lastweek and probably 10 went blue they are a very distinct looking mushroom just google some images and you will have no probs, the season is just starting so the next 4 weeks will be good picking I picked in november lastyear and this year I got my first in the second week of september so they are only coming up now, they are lookalikes but they wont poision you that is for certain so just google some images they are very distinguishable from all the lookalikes they look like a bell with a nipple on the top and can be very pale to white depending on how long they are up

agree to Nicky just looked at shrooms.ie site and they added guide to help identify mushies, theres 8 species according to site in Ireland and some dont really look much like libs, and again the ones that are active have close cousins that are look alikes. One thing for sure you wont find any in forested areas, it has to be grassland or well maintained pitch like gaa/ golf courses, from my little experience they grow best on sheep fields usually besides the sharp grass (forgot name), also no need to wonder deep as most finds are usually close to well walked paths where grass is low and altitude is high, think of ancient monuments, hardest issue is to find accessible fields as not to trespass, overgrown fields are no good as well as its hard to spot them trough high grass.

Hi Beno.. Definitely not! In fact, on a sunny day like today, the caps dry to a lovely creamy colour, which makes them easier to spot. I've been over a field, picked everything in sight, gone back over it, to discover more have appeared in the meantime! Did you ever hear the phrase, " they spring up like mushrooms"?... Lol 😀

Foraged on and around the shut down Frankfield golf course yesterday, lots of different species but not the ones we’re looking for. Also a load of tents pitched so maybe they were picked, as it is known to produce a good few. I’m not so sure anymore. Anyone had any luck in cork yet?

Dublin suburbs are just starting to fruit like crazy. I went out a week ago and looked at parks and such around town (I know they aren't ideal spots, but it's hard to get away for good foraging trip). I didn't see a single mushroom, much less a lib. Walking around today it was like Alice in Wonderland. Mushrooms everywhere. Still no confirmed caps, but I only looked for like 15 minutes. Anyway, I'm heading out for a full-day trip this weekend. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Those are grubs, which are fine to consume, but yeah they can really go to town on your mushrooms. My guess would be that you didn’t dry your mushrooms enough to get rid of them. I put mine into a dehydrator, they can’t stand the heat for that long

I am afraid that our beloved mushrooms have befallen the same fate as 60% of the animal and wildlife species on our planet, basically they are now virtually impossible to find because of chemical spraying and the like, we are killing nature in every form ,sadly there is every reason to believe that mushrooms have not escaped. I picked them easily and abundantly up to 15 yrs ago, every year since has gotten less and less, makes me terribly sad...

Yes the weather is perfect at the moment now that it’s getting a bit colder and there’s plenty of rain. They tend to pop up on higher ground first, I’m assuming because of the temperature difference. So the best thing to do is get out there and have a look around

Went picking yesterday and picked some mushrooms that I think are liberty caps. It's been nearly 20 years since I picked some, these look slightly bigger and darkEr in colour than I remember. Would anyone be willing to accept an email, text or what's app with some images to help me identify them. Also I'm in Galway area if anybody wants to go picking or would be willing to share some good spots.

"Johnnie Fox's", been hearing about this fabled eden of mushrooms for years. Made my way up there early this morning. The fields in the vicinity have houses on them and I didn't have the cheek to jump fences. Keeping on the road west of the pub brings you into a valley of sheep territory and after laser eyeing the fields on either side of the road I spotted nothing. I eagle eyed a couple on the far side of the valley and it was clear they were scoping out the land too. I ended up going through the mountains and finishing at Marlay Park. I'm going to ramble around tomorrow or Friday and will keep yiz posted.

Hi Sinead the comraghs are a good place to get them. I am going to give you on specific place I have been successful because I found it very frustrating getting accurate information and I was tipped off about this place and so I will pay it forward . I have others but I'll keep them to myself for now. It's a bit hit and miss but on the dungarvan side for the cruchan walk 52.134755,-7.595513. that field has easy access from the track about one mile walk if you park on the road. You can't be seen from the nearest house. I would bring someone though as the farmer could drive up at anytime. I usually bring a bag and throw a few bits berries etc in it. That way you can just say you are free food finding if they do come as you are trespassing. They are some out this time of year but usually October is better in the comeraghs. Also I wouldn't bother going into that field if there are any sheep etc as there will be nothing in it then and you would disturb the animals and really piss off the farmer.

Also just note it is a fairly popular walk so there can be people on it esp the weekend. This is good in one way as you won't look out of place there with a backpack however You can be easily seen from the track in the field so bare that in mind. If you can bring someone do to look out. I am an older man and I didn't have anyone that I could bring so it's a bit nerve wracking going through a field with your head down looking for mushrooms. Don't park in the lane either park down on the road just away from the house. Best of luck with your search I hope they are there for you. If not at least you can continue up the trail and have a nice walk!

Got about 100 in an hour or so here in the south east but up high. Spent two hours in my usual spot and found nothing. Stopped to tie my lace on the way back to the car and there they were right on the grass at the side of the path were I would never think to look.

I got them the last two weekends. I went out in a fairly hill spot. I got about 200 over the two days. South of the country. Found more clusters the second time and didn't have to look as hard so hoping this week will be better again.

Was unsubscribed again??? Thank you to the Commeragh mts info but that’s too far for me. I’m on the KK : Waterford border and would have no idea how to get to the mts. I’ve never tried mushrooms before and I’ve no idea wtf in doing. Is there anyone in my area that could share their experience with me? Safely?

Hello. I'm based roughly halfway between Clonakilty and Skibbereen. Does anyone happen to know anywhere roundabout these parts that mushrooms may be found? Have been scrabbling about for a couple of weeks now with absolutely no joy.

I just want to say Thank You to everyone who supported me through the years. My name is Manuel Franco, New Berlin, Wisconsin. My story of how I won the Powerball lottery of $768.4M is a bit of a tale. I have been playing Powerball tickets for 6 years now since I turned 18. I bought my first ticket on my 18 birthday. I was feeling very lucky that day because I had contacted Dr. Odunga Michael to help me with the winning Powerball numbers. I really had that great great feeling that I looked at the camera wanting to wink at it. I only did a tiny part of it and trusted him. He gave me the numbers after I played a couple other tickets along with it for $10. I checked my ticket after the winnings came online and saw the numbers were correct including the Power play. I screamed for about 10 minutes because it felt like a dream. I had won $768.4M. You can check my winning testimony with the lottery officials just with my name search. Thank you Dr Odunga. Well, his email is [email protected] and you can also call or Whats-app him at +2348167159012 so you guys can contact him

Hi does anyone know any good areas in Galway to find some liberty caps, I live out in the country with lots of fields and forests near me. Can they show up in any field with sheep? Also I was wondering if it’s too early for them to be growing yet because I have looked through about 6 or 7 big fields and only found regular mushrooms.

Hi David, I’m in east Galway and starting to go out shortly looking for them. Think the general consensus is that they can be found in shorter grass where animals have been grazing. I’ve found some recently in north Mayo and Sligo so they are starting to come out now. This warm weather won’t help but I’d say when it starts to cool again and we get crisp mornings then you’ll find them everywhere
